Last year, the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle lineup underwent a big shakeup. Both Dyna and V-Rod models were discontinued, and a wide mix of engines still breathed in the remaining bikes. For 2019, things look a little more stable, but there are still some changes and innovations on the way. Thirty-five models will be offered for 2019 in six families: H-D Street; Sportster; Softail; Touring; Trike; and CVO.

The H-D Street lineup returns with few changes from 2018. The Street 500 (primarily a training bike for the H-D Riding Academy) and Street 750 are good entry-level bikes that start at $6,899 and $7,599 respectively. The Street Rod (starting at $8,699) uses a high-output version of the 750 engine, along with more aggressive styling and ergonomics.

Sportster is the Harley family that’s been in continuous production the longest. The Sportster family gains two models this year. New entries Iron 1200 and 48 Special join the Superlow, Iron 883, Custom 1200, 48, and Roadster, bringing the stable up to seven models for 2019, with starting prices ranging from $8,699 to $11,299.

Softail got a total makeover last year. Like the Sportsters, the Softail family expands by two this year. The new entries are Sport Glide and FXDR 114, joining holdover models Street Bob, Low Rider, Softail Slim, Fat Bob, Deluxe, Fat Boy, Heritage Classic, and Breakout for a family of 10 motorcycles with prices starting at $14,549 and going up to $21,349 .

The Trike family stands pat with two models again this year, the hot rod Freewheeler (starting at $28,099) and the loaded touring machine Tri Glide Ultra (starting at $36,099).

The Touring family returns with 10 models: Road King; Street Glide; Road Glide; Road King Special; Electra Glide Ultra Classic; Street Glide Special; Road Glide Special; Road Glide Ultra; Ultra Limited Low; and Ultra Limited. Starting prices range from $19,289 to $28,089.

Three CVO (Custom Vehicle Operations) models will be offered for 2019, all from the Touring family: CVO Street Glide (starting at $40,889); CVO Road Glide (starting at $42,339); and CVO Limited (starting at $43,889). Each of these limited-edition models carries H-D’s latest technology and comfort options, along with custom paint and exclusive accessories.

In addition to the 35 models above, the Motor Company has promised to bring a production version of LiveWire, its first electric motorcycle, to market. LiveWire uses a permanent magnet electric motor, mounted as a stressed member in an aluminum frame. Fully adjustable Showa suspension front and rear with Brembo front brakes, ABS and traction control are standard. A color thin-film transistor (TFT) touchscreen above the handlebar with Bluetooth connectivity provides information. The main battery on the bike is an array of Lithium-ion cells which can be charged with an on-board Level 1 charger. The bike can also be charged via Level 2 or Level 3 DC Fast Charge. A small supplemental 12-volt Lithium-ion battery powers the lights, controls, horn, and instrument panel. All H-D dealers who sell LiveWire will provide access to a public charging station with DC Fast Charge capability.

The all-new LiveWire is due for release in 2019,”and pricing and details are due to be revealed in January. A production-ready bike was shown at EICMA in Milan last month. LiveWire is planned as the first electric motorcycle in a full portfolio of electric bikes to debut by 2022.
